Hundreds set off for annual fun run
MORE than 500 runners took off into the Geelong sunrise on December 31, sending off the year with the 33rd Dawnbuster Fun Run.
A joint initiative by the Geelong Cross Country Club and the Give Where you Live Foundation, the annual event raises money for the foundation and its work in supporting the community.
Give Where You Live Foundation event manager Jo Wealands said the run took place in perfect conditions and was a great way to kick off the new year.
“Over 500 people joined us this year, which was 100 more runners than the previous year enjoying the scenic waterfront course.
“It was the perfect morning for a 5km run and was great to see the community join together to support the Foundation.
“It was a real community effort to raise money for those who may be experiencing homelessness, struggling to put food on the table or facing barriers to employment.”
Geelong Cross Country Club’s Dr John Morton said the atmosphere of the event was great.
“For 33 years the Geelong Cross Country Club has partnered with the Give Where You Live Foundation to hold the Dawnbuster Fun Run.
“We’re very proud that this year’s event raised $8,500 to give back to the community. There was a real atmosphere of celebration.”
Participants of all ages and fitness levels took on the run, making their way along a new course at the Geelong Waterfront.
Susanna Mevromihalis and Peter Kerr were the fasted participants to finish on the day.
