HIGHTON open spaces are in line for upgrades, with the City of Greater Geelong council seeking local input on its coming plans.

The city is planning upgrades for three reserves in the suburb: Stanbury Avenue Reserve, Esperance Crescent Reserve and Morena Street Reserve.

Stanbury Avenue has existing facilities including a basketball half-court that are in need of an upgrade, while Esperance Crescent and Morena Street are undeveloped.

The city says community feedback will help form concept plans for the reserves, which would then open for further feedback before finalising upgrade plans.

Kardinia Ward councillor Ron Nelson said he wanted to see the area’s public space used to its potential.

“Highton is growing and we want to give people of all ages places to socialise and enjoy recreation outdoors,” Cr Nelson said.

“We encourage the local community to take part in this process and help come up with some really positive plans for the three reserves.”

Geelong mayor Peter Murrihy said the community partnership aimed to ensure the development met the community’s needs and expectations.

The city will host one-hour sessions at each reserve this Sunday, August 28 from 10am at Stanbury, 11.30am at Esperance Crescent and 1pm at Morena Street.
