AN inaugural charity fundraiser in Geelong has raised crucial fundraising for families fighting cancer, thanks to a local car enthusiast group.

Hundreds of vintage and modern Fords rolled into South Barwon Reserve on Sunday for the region’s first Blue Oval Show ‘n’ Shine fundraiser event, providing a rare opportunity for Ford fans to get their automobile fix of the popular American car brand.

Hosted by the Falcon GT Club of Geelong, the event raised $4,360 for national cancer support charity Camp Quality.

Co-event organiser, Malcolm Lloyd, said the success of the event has the club looking at making the Show ‘n’ Shine an annual occasion, with more than 140 cars turning up on the day.

“It’s hard to put an exact number on foot traffic, but we managed to get around $300 in gold coin donations from entries and couple that with the number of cars in attendance, we’d safely have had more than 400 people there on the day.

“I think this year’s event definitely had that old-style car show kind of feel we were looking for in hosting the event, and most importantly, all the proceeds went toward Camp Quality, which was the biggest element we wanted from this event.

“We’re extremely happy to have a close relationship with Camp Quality, it’s one we’ve had for three or four years now, so we’re more than happy to help where we can.”
