Inverleigh swoop on Bannockburn in first qualifying final
Seven different goal scorers combined to drive Inverleigh to a 42-point win over Bannockburn yesterday (Saturday, August 20) in St Albans, as the Hawks soared to a 12.19.91 to 8.1.49 win over the Tigers.
After getting out early to a 19-point advantage at the first change, Inverleigh outscored its opponents in each of the remaining three quarters, eventually securing a seven-goal victory.
Finley O’Keefe was the best performer in front of goal for Inverleigh with three goals, while Paddy O’Bourke, player-coach Adam Donohue and Casey Meehan each snagged a pair of goals at St Albans Reserve.
Dalton Grundell, Jarrod Love and Matt Tyquin also got on the score sheet for the Hawks.
Daniel Ladgrove, Hayden Spiller, Kieran Fulton, William Middleton, Connor Jervies and Tristan Battaglia each received honourable mentions for the Tigers today.
Bannockburn’s disappointing result sets up a semi-final clash with the winner of today’s (Sunday, August 21) Elimination Final between Bell Post Hill and Geelong West. Inverleigh will face East Geelong next Saturday (August 27) for a spot in the GDFL Grand Final.
