THE Committee for Geelong (CfG) will mark International Women’s Day this year with a special breakfast event featuring Australian tennis player and commentator Jelena Dokic.

The keynote speaker at next month’s event, Dokic has had a storied and well-documented life and tennis career both on and off the court.

Her stellar playing career included defeating then-world no. 1 Martina Hingis at the age of 16 and being ranked world no. 4 in 2002, but her rapid ascent through the world ranking was marred by her off-court struggles.

In 2017, Dokic penned the best-selling autobiography Unbreakable, which details the struggles of being a refugee, dealing with poverty, racism, bullying, and discrimination, as well as the physical and emotional abuse she suffered for more than 20 years at the hands of her father.

Retiring from professional tennis in 2015, she is now one of the leading voices for Nine Network’s coverage of the Australian Open, and a motivational speaker on topics including resilience, mental health and empowerment.

The CfG annual International Women’s Day Breakfast will be held at the Presidents’ Room, GMHBA Stadium, Geelong on March 8 from 7-9am.

Tickets are $99 including GST.
