Joeys to head on cricket immersion to New Zealand
Under 15s cricketers from St Joseph’s Cricket Club will this month undertake an immersion trip to New Zealand to get their eyes on the game across the ditch.
More than two dozen players and their parents will take a tour of some of Auckland’s top cricket teams including Kumeua and Howick Pakaranga for 10 days.
The teams will play a minimum of six matches with their Kiwi friends.
During the immersion, the 25-strong group will also travel to Rotorua and visit Tamiki Maori Village to learn about Maori culture and traditions.
The $120,000 cost of the trip has been mostly fundraised via sponsorships, raffles, trivia nights, barbecues and meal nights over the past ten months.
Travelling parent John Watts said it’s been a big build up to the tour.
“I am not sure who is more excited the parents or the junior players.
“It will be an unforgettable experience for the team to play with some great clubs in Auckland and have fun learning about another country’s culture at the same time.”
