Labor pledges to fund stage 2 of Barwon Heads Road duplication

LABOR will pledge $125 million towards building stage 2 of the Barwon Heads Road duplication if it wins next year’s federal election.

Opposition Leader Anthony Albanese will visit Armstrong Creek today (Saturday, November 27) to make the election commitment to partner with the Victorian Government to duplicate Barwon Heads Road along Armstrong Creek’s eastern boundary from between Reserve Road in the north and Lower Duneed Road in the south.

Stage 2 will link with the $365 million first stage of the project, now under construction, which is duplicating four kilometres of the road between Settlement Road and Reserve Road and create a bridge over the railway line and is expected to be complete in late 2023.

In a joint statement issued yesterday (Friday, November 26), Mr Albanese, Shadow Minister for Transport, Infrastructure and Regional Development Catherine King and Corangamite Labor federal member Libby Coker said stage 2 of the duplication would mean families in Armstrong Creek, Barwon Heads and all across the Bellarine would have quicker and safer commutes to work, school and weekend sport.

“This project will future-proof infrastructure across this growing region, creating local jobs in the construction phase and ensuring that working families can spend less time in the car and more time at home.

“And, unlike so many of the Morrison-Joyce Government’s commitments, an Albanese Labor Government will actually deliver it.”
