THE unique biodiversity of Lake Connewarre is featured as one of three new stamps by Australia Post to celebrate Australia’s environmental sustainability and beauty.

In his fourth series with Australia Post, Melbourne illustrator Andrew Hopgood showcases Lake Connewarre as the home to important trials to release the endangered orange-bellied parrot back into the wild.

The illustration also references the protection of native koala populations.

Mr Hopgood said he thoroughly enjoyed the environmental brief.

“I really enjoyed showcasing the interconnectedness of species and biodiversity in the area as well as Lake Connewarre as an overall ecosystem.

“It’s always fun doing briefs and designs from Australia Post particularly when they are detailed like this one.

“It’s the first illustration I’ve done of a location down on the Surf Coast and I really enjoyed it.”

Lake Connewarre is the only Victorian location to be stylised in the new Australia Post stamp collection.

The stamp referencing the Indigenous Rangers Program in the Northern Territory.

The other two pieces in the collection are an illustration of the Indigenous Rangers Program in the Northern Territory and another regarding renewable energy technologies in Australian communities.

Mr Hopgood engaged with the CSIRO, the Indigenous Land and Sea Corporation (ILSC) and Australia Post’s sustainability team for the stamp project.

One of Mr Hopgood’s pieces references renewable energy technologies in Australian communities.

All stamps are $1.20 and available together on a sustainability sheetlet.
