Laughs galore at Geelong Comedy Festival
GEELONG’S comedy scene came to life last weekend as the second instalment of the Geelong Comedy Festival wrapped up after four successful days.
From October 31 until November 3, more than 100 comedians and thousands of festival goers packed out eight venues along Little Malop Street.
The festival, organised by Kelly Baker and Blaise White, featured local acts and those more well-known including Gabby Anderson, Matt Bell, Geraldine Hickey and Brett Blake.
Mr White said it was a really fun weekend and about 25 per cent bigger than last year’s in terms of ticket sales.
“We had a bigger response this year than we did last year from the public which is good, but also understandable coming into our second year, more people know that we exist.
“There was plenty of cool comedians that came down that weren’t part of the festival, we thought that was cool, there was people coming down to a variety of shows and just to check out the town and the festival.”
Both venues that were part of the festival and the businesses surrounding benefited from the influx of people, filling the bars and restaurants.
“There was a real buzz in the town and people were having fun,” Mr White said.
“It was probably a professional highlight to see that the job was done, which was to bring life into Little Malop Street for a weekend, that was probably the most important thing.
“These venues are kind enough to give us their space and trust us with it and take over bars for four days so we want to reward them with good numbers.”
The event organisers thanked everyone who headed out over the weekend and supported the festival and are excited to bring it back next year.
