Holiday hub: lots of fun for kids and adults at Leopold Library

January 2, 2020 BY

The Lego Challenge is coming to Leopold Library.

THE Leopold Library will be a hive of activity during the school holidays, with a schedule of events planned for both the young and the young at heart.
It is part of a raft of free and paid activities offered throughout summer by the City of Greater Geelong across the municipality.
One highly energetic but surprisingly quiet highlight on the calendar will be the silent disco on January 22 from 4-7pm. Children aged 12-18 are invited to bust out their best dance moves at the drug-, alcohol- and smoke-free event.
Bookings essential – phone COGG youth development officer Aleisha on 0400 555 273.
Are you up for the Lego Challenge? Test your building skills by completing as many of the Lego Challenge creations as possible in one hour.
Suitable for ages 8 and up, it will be held on January 15 from 10.30-11.30am.
Budding game designers aged 10 and up can build their own video game with Bloxels in a four-week course in February.
Become the writer, artist and developer with coloured blocks and a 13-bit layout. Create game rooms, characters and objects, and then watch your game world come to life. For bookings, email [email protected].
Have you heard of the slow flowers movement? It is all about taking the best care of your flowers and the environment by letting things grow at their own pace, in their true season, with the help of bees rather than chemicals and pesticides.
Local grower Simone McKenzie will explain the movement at the library on January 14 from 5-6pm, and attendees will take away a sample of sustainably grown flowers
The Friday Flicks sessions will host free screenings of classic films from
the archives.
Flower Drum Song (the 1961 film adaptation of the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical) will be screened on January 10, while Pygmalion (based on the George Bernard Shaw play of the same name) will be screened on February 14. Both events will run from 10.30am-12.30pm.
Head to grlc.vic.gov.au for bookings and details about all of these events.
