Lions go digital for Good Friday Appeal

April 9, 2020 BY

The Torquay Lions' Virtual Tin Rattle is up and running.

THE Torquay Lions Club has gone digital to ensure their Good Friday Appeal can continue in the absence of their traditional fundraising methods.

The Lions Good Friday Appeal raises funds for the Royal Children’s Hospital.

The Torquay Lions generally fundraise through roadside collections and door knocking, but club president John Bell said the appeal would go ahead through different means this year.

“Torquay Lions have registered with the appeal organisers for the Good Friday Appeal Virtual Tin Shake.

“We have a virtual tin for people to donate, continuing the shake this year, albeit donating from home or wherever they are during this time of self-isolation.”

Mr Bell said he understood current events would affect how much the club raised, but he hoped people would still support the cause.

“We do not expect to raise the same amounts as we would with street collections and real tin rattles, but with everyone’s help, we hope Torquay will end up with a worthy total.”

Torquay Lions Good Friday Appeal co-ordinator Peter McMahon said the Virtual Tin was now ready for anyone who wants to contribute.

“It worked well when we did our first donations, so we expect good results.”
