A LOCAL fundraising team is leading the charge in the fight against cancer as an annual convoy prepares to roll through Geelong.

Camp Quality Convoy Geelong fundraising team Tippin For A Living, made up of local transport industry workers Scott Daffy, Simon Sheahan, Tim Scott and Richie Wylie, has raised over $3,500 through their personal and social networks towards families being affected by cancer, currently ranked eighth among fundraising teams this year.

Mr Daffy, owner of S & R Daffy Haulage, says this year’s convoy will be the fourth he has attended to date.

“Each year it’s just a blast to see the smiles put on the kids’ faces, seeing the roads lined with families, everyone smiling and waving, it’s just a tremendous event to be a part of,” Mr Daffy said.

“It also provides an opportunity for the transport industry to come together as one. All the truck drivers, we’re all part of the industry somehow, the industry itself is so big, whether you’re in earthmoving, civil, freight, everyone can come together for a good cause.”

More than 30 fundraising teams and 180 fundraising individuals will raise as many funds as they can for this Sunday’s annual Camp Quality Convoy Geelong.

All funds raised for the convoy will go to Camp Quality’s programs such as camps, retreats, medical-play techniques, puppet programs, and counselling.

To date, fundraisers have raised over $120,000, just under $60,000 off Camp Quality’s goal of $180,000.

Owner of T S Earthmoving, Tim Scott, said a child receiving a diagnosis is something he wouldn’t wish on his worst enemy.

“It’s not just a standard truck show, it’s a lot more than that,” Mr Scott said.

“I put a post up the other day saying I couldn’t imagine something like cancer affecting my kids, so for those who are going through something terrible like that, if we can help in one way or another we’re more than happy to do so.”
