Local primary school gets multi-level classrooms
AS VICTORIAN school enrolments continue to grow, schools around the state will receive multi-storey classrooms.
Mount Duneed’s Mirripoa Primary School will be one of 11 in the state to receive a relocatable classroom.
Principal Darryl Diment said the addition of the classrooms are fantastic and will allow them to increase their enrolment to more than 600 students.
“We love the double storey relocatable building as there is less of an area footprint of the school site, their fantastic quality and design features and the students love the view.”
While it is still being determined which grade levels will use the buildings, Mr Diment said every available teaching space will be used at the school next year.
The classrooms are scheduled to arrive later this month, ahead of schedule, ready for students when they return next year.
“Their early arrival will allow us to set them up ready for the start of the 2025 school year,” Mr Diment said.
“Each classroom takes considerable planning (new furniture and television) and time to set up so our students have access to the best resources.”
Mr Diment said the school was chosen because of its growing enrolment and looks forward to being able to meet the needs of the school community.
New facilities will incorporate the latest innovations for teachers and students and feature modern learning environments, including double-glazed windows, improved insulation and wall and ceiling linings to reduce noise reverberation.
The state government has invested $152.4 million into the 2025 school year, delivering additional classrooms in areas of need as part of the Relocatable Buildings Program.
Minister for Education Ben Carroll said delivering the infrastructure gives students and teachers the learning environment they need to achieve their best.
“These state-of-the-art classrooms provide a fast and flexible option to respond to the growing needs of local schools.”
The 11 new classrooms will add to the 54 multi-storey buildings allocated to 28 schools earlier this year.
