Local watering hole to receive fish stocking
IN the lead up to the July school holidays, Fisheries Victoria are stocking lakes around the state.
Geelong’s Saint Augustine Water Hole will be stocked with 750 rainbow trout, with the aim of getting families to go fishing.
Once stocked, the rainbow trout will be ready to catch.
The species take a variety of baits and lures, making them a good option for children.
The Saint Augustine Water Hole in Highton received 250 trout in June last year and a further 750 in time for the 2023 September holidays.
Rainbow trout are an introduced species from North America and are a popular species throughout the world.
Fisheries Victoria also plans to stock the water hole in the leadup to the September holidays with a further 750 trout.
There is a daily bag limit of five trout and only two can be more than 35cm.Those between the ages of 18 and 70 are required to have a fishing license, which can be obtained online.
Fisheries Victoria stock waterways to help improve the opportunities for fishing and to help with the recovery of endangered species.
The Victorian July school holidays run from July 1 until July 12, with several other lakes in Melbourne and regional areas being stocked.
