The initiative aims to foster, support and build a collection of purposeful street art by women from a diverse range of backgrounds.
Through the creation of wall-based street art installations across Geelong’s CBD, the program will amplify the contributions of women in public art while addressing broader societal discussions around gendered representations.
Geelong mayor Stretch Kontelj said the program aligned with the city’s vision of reflecting the stories of diverse and under-represented groups within the area.
“The WiSA program builds on the success of the Women’s Street Art Commission Project the city ran in 2022.
“This program supports the Victorian Government’s broader initiative to address gender equality in public art.”
Cr Emma Sinclair said this opportunity was open to artists across a diverse range of wall-based media.
“This program will help Geelong be known as a place that supports women in public art.
“We look forward to seeing the exciting and powerful works that will emerge through this program.”
Submissions must include artwork examples representing the artist’s original work and reflect artistic excellence, innovation and originality.
Expressions of interest close on June 23.
Successful artist’s work will be scheduled for installation in September.
