LORNE SLSC’s crews again proved too hot to handle on the Bellarine as the Cutlets and Edge took first place finishes in the open category.

Victorian surf boat crews rowed into Ocean Grove this weekend for the fifth round of the 2022-23 Victorian Surf Rowing League (VSRL) series.

Crews from Altona, Anglesea, Fairhaven, Jan Juc, Lorne, Mordialloc, Port Campbell, St Kilda, Venus Bay and Williamstown competed in a day of highly competitive rowing.

Life Saving Victoria general manager sports participation Ryan O’Connor said the race for coveted spots in the Victorian surf boat state team was heating up, with just one more round of competition coming up before selection.

“The racing on Sunday was an incredible show of athleticism and skill, as our Victorian crews put their best oars forward in hope of qualifying for the Victorian state team.

“Our rowers are among our dedicated volunteers who patrol the beaches each summer, and when you look at the surf awareness on display this weekend, Victorians are in safe hands with these committed and surf smart people looking out for them between the flags.”

The final round of state team selection will take place at Fairhaven on January 15, 2023, in what is expected to be another day of fantastic racing.
