Manager makes a splash at awards
THE aquatics manager at Norlane ARC (Aquatic Recreation Centre) and Lara Swimming Pool has been recognised by Victoria’s peak body for the aquatic and reaction industry with an Emerging Leader Award.
Georgia Gordon was presented with the accolade last month at the Aquatics and Recreation Victoria (ARV) Industry Awards gala event, held at Melbourne Park.
The annual awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of those working within the industry, with 25 awards presented this year from a competitive field of more than 250 nominees.
Ms Gordon, who has been an employee of the City of Greater Geelong for almost nine years, was one of 10 individuals nominated from the region.
“Georgia is an impressive leader with an understanding of operational leadership,” the ARV judges said.
“Developing her leadership skills, she understands long-term planning and aligning values, missions and workplace culture.”
“Georgia has a strong understanding of the importance of cultivating trust in teams as a foundation of success and her role in executing a plan to improve alignment and engagement of staff and team.”
The judges commended Ms Gordon on her “impressive growth mindset” and for working her way from lifeguard to aquatics manager/2IC, stating her progression was an “exemplar” of an emerging leader.
Ms Gordon said it was an honour to represent the city at the ARV awards.
“It is an incredible privilege to represent the City of Greater Geelong and to be acknowledged among such talented professionals,” she said.
“This award is a reflection of the support and encouragement from my colleagues and the community.”
Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan commended the city representatives who also received nominations.
“We are immensely proud of our representatives at the ARV Industry Awards,” he said.
“Their dedication and passion for our community’s aquatic and recreation facilities set a benchmark for excellence.
“Georgia in particular has embraced every opportunity that has come her way, setting high standards for herself to progress in the industry and inspiring others along the way.”
