BETHANY Kindergarten Services (BKS) has selected a Bee as the organisation’s mascot, a symbol of its focus on inclusion and passion for the environment.

BKS executive manager Anneliese Knell said the new yellow, black and purple cartoon will be a feature during Education Week (May 23 to 27) when the service is opening its door for family visits.

“Bees are vital to our precious ecosystem and symbolise a healthy environment. Bees are known to be social and they work together in their hive – just like the children learn and play together at our kindergartens,” she said.

“The hardworking and environmentally friendly Bee was the perfect choice to help further promote early childhood education.”

Prospective families are being encouraged to inspect the Kirralee Kindergarten in Newcomb and Breakwater Preschool as part of the open week.

“People visiting for the first time don’t realise how big and beautiful our outdoor play area is,” Kirralee Kindergarten leader Kellie Margerison said.

“We have a really large backyard with trees, climbing and playground equipment, an undercover sand pit, mud kitchen and sports equipment. Everything busy young learners would want.”

Breakwater Preschool teacher, Paula Eastwood and early childhood educator Rosy Cameron further demonstrate the service’s emphasis on community connection, each having taught there for more than 10 years.

“We’ve worked with entire families over the years, who have sent all of their children to learn with us,” Ms Eastwood said.

“We have great relationships with local schools, we run a weekly bush kinder program that involves play-based learning, outside in nature and the children just love it.”
