THE lawns of Steampacket Gardens will transform into a gleaming showcase of vintage vehicles as the MG Car Club’s annual display returns this weekend.

In a tradition that has spanned across more than 20 years, the 500-member club will give the community an opportunity to admire MG cars of all shapes and sizes this Sunday, 8 March.

More than 100 cars will be on display, with models from the British marque ranging from historic to modern.

Tour director Roger Phipps encouraged the community to attend and emphasised the beauty of the location of the display.

“It’s a fun day, because it’s a great location that showcases Geelong,”

he said.

“Hopefully we get visitors from Melbourne and other places to come and have a look.

“You might find something interesting, it might spur you to come along to a club event – you don’t have to have an MG to be a member, it’s not compulsory.”

Phipps said combination of collectors, individuals and families bring their cars down for the event, which created a great mix.

He added that MG vehicles were popular, given their affordability.

“It’s one of the classic car brands that you can get into without a huge expense.

“Parts are readily available and there’s lots of support through clubs like ours.”

The free event will run from 10am to 3pm, with live music and entertainment also on offer.
