More boaters to head out from Kirks Point
UPGRADES to Kirks Point boat ramp are complete providing safer user-friendly ramp access for boaters to enjoy a day on the water.
The $4 million upgrade from the Allan Labor Government was officially opened Wednesday, November 8, by Outdoor Recreation Minister Steve Dimopoulos.
The upgrade features dual lane grooved concrete panels surrounded by a breakwater to provide protection from southerly and easterly winds.
A jetty has also been added alongside the ramp to provide boaters with space to tie their boats and new car parking and trailer bays have also been added.
Mr Dimopoulos said the upgrades would make Kirks Point a far more impressive and user-friendly facility.
“With more parking, protection from wind and a Boating Vic camera for extra piece of mind when planning a day on the bay, Kirk Point is another great launching option for boaters in Melbourne’s booming western suburbs.”
Member for Lara, Ella George said the upgrades to Kirks Point would help to cater for smaller vessels in Greater Geelong.
“If you’ve got a tinny or small boat, the new-look Kirk Point ramp has all you need to enjoy the great fishing and boating opportunities Corio Bay offers.”
The upgrades at Kirks Point follow a recent $1.8 million ramp upgrade at nearby Avalon Beach which will provide another launching spot between Melbourne and Geelong.
