THE owners of Moriac General Store are excited to showcase the store’s fresh look and new menu just in time for a busy summer season.

Lauren and Aaron Giles and Glenn and Hayley Newling have kicked off their second year at the helm by giving the venue a freshen up during its Christmas closure.

The Moriac General Store has new floors, updated signage and has enlisted Torquay chef Kirby Downey to spearhead the kitchen full-time.

Co-owner Aaron Giles said he was excited for a jam-packed festive period.

“The MCG Signs team helped us to keep the charm of the old building and freshen up the sign, the floorplan is looking great and the addition of Kirby is sure to be a crowd-pleaser,” he said.

“The menu features plenty of amazing local flavours and favourites including delicious eggs benedict, steak sandwiches, thai green curry’s, calamari, and our popular smoked salmon bagels and sweets.

“We can’t wait to see how it’s all received over the coming months.”

Mr Giles said locals can expect to see more fresh produce on the menu and on the shelves in 2024.

“Because we source everything as locally as we can, our community producers are absolutely integral,” he said.

“We are lucky to have some great relationships with producers like Mount Moriac Beef, Fyansford Honey, Ravens Creek Eggs and many more.

“Word spreads pretty quick, so when people hear we use local and love local, then they are keen to find out more about us.

“It helps us to generate plenty of buzz and makes us a better asset to the local community.”

Mr Giles said launching an event series was also on the horizon to increase the store’s offering to its community.

“We are looking to do some Friday and Sunday afternoon acoustic sessions on the deck with drinks,” he said.

“Being right in the centre of town, people can walk down and enjoy it regularly if they wish.

“People will be able to eat, be entertained, get their local produce and also still get their post!”

“It’s a bit of a one-stop-shop, and we think that’s pretty great.”
