PASSENGERS journeying between South Geelong and Waurn Ponds will have more options for travel thanks to a new train stabling facility in Waurn Ponds which will deliver an extra 31 services every week.

Beginning on Sunday, May 28, an extra 21 services will be travelling towards South Geelong and Marshall stations and 26 extra services will head out to Waurn Ponds during morning and evening peak times.

The new timetable additions have been made possible by a newly built train stabling yard which is able to provide overnight storage for trains travelling on the Geelong line.

The 31 extended services are on top of the 20 extra services per week delivered last May following upgrades to Waurn Ponds Station.

Transport and Infrastructure Minister Jacinta Allan said the commitment to the Geelong community would help to support the area’s massive growth.

“We’re continuing to improve services for passengers on Victoria’s busiest regional rail line, giving the growing Geelong community better access to more reliable, frequent and affordable public transport.”

Member for Geelong Christine Couzens also welcomed the announcement.

“Adding these extended services for South Geelong, along with the major upgrades happening at the station, will make train travel an even more appealing option for locals.”

Major construction is also ramping up on the South Geelong to Waurn Ponds Duplication which will help to enable even more services to travel towards Geelong.
