LARA residents can pick up free mulch this and next weekend at Chirnside Park, created from trees downed in last week’s storm.

The mulch is available from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm on 24-25 February and 2-3 March at the Patullos Road location.

The significant weather event left Lara with over 15 loads of green waste, now offered back to the community as mulch.

Executive Director of City Infrastructure James Stirton said the City was keen to help.

“We’re excited to offer Greater Geelong residents the chance to pick up free mulch for their properties following the storm last week,” Mr Stirton said.

“It’s been a challenging time for some residents with the cleanup effort so we are pleased to be able to give back to the community.

“We also need help to recycle the mulch as the pile is growing at Chirnside Park while the cleanup continues in the region.

“A big thank you to those community members who have been proactive by moving branches off the road.

“Our team has worked extremely hard to make the community safe in a short period of time.

“Residents are welcome to bring a trailer along to collect the free mulch both this weekend and next.”

The Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre will be waiving green waste disposal fees for affected Greater Geelong residents until 30 April.

Lara residents can alternatively use the Wyndham landfill for free storm waste disposal.

For nature strip waste, the Drysdale facility or green bins are the disposal options.
