A NEW facility to support the region’s next generation of sailors has officially launched on the Geelong Waterfront.
The Victorian Sailing Centre opened its doors on Friday last week and will host local, national and international regattas, while serving as an educational facility for government secondary school students across the state.
Geelong MP Christine Couzens officially opened the building, alongside representatives from the Royal Geelong Yacht Club and the City of Greater Geelong.
“This is a wonderful part of the revitalised waterfront precinct that will not only help Geelong to host premier sailing events it will support first class education and training programs for Victorian students,” she said.

The sailing hub boasts modern training rooms, upgraded changing facilities, multipurpose spaces, a classroom, communication facilities, short stay accommodation and more.
It will also act as a second campus of Newcomb Secondary College and will be available to government secondary students in the school year.
“This world-class facility elevates our capacity to deliver premium sailing education and positions Royal Geelong Yacht Club as a central hub for both community connection and international competition,” Royal Geelong Yacht Club Commodore Paul Buchholz said.

“From local programs to world championships and the iconic Festival of Sails, this centre is a game-changer, not just for our members, but for the entire region.”
The Victorian Sailing Centre marks the completion of the first stage of the Geelong Waterfront Safe Harbour Project, which also includes the floating marina arm and Wangim Walk.
The majority of the centre was funded by the Victorian government, who contributed $13.75 million.
Contributions also came from the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, City of Greater Geelong and the federal government as part of the Geelong City Deal.
