THE new facilities at Christ the King Catholic Primary School are now officially up and running.

Geelong MP Christine Couzens visited the school in Newcomb last week to open the $1.062 million upgrade funded by the Victorian government, which includes the replacement of two relocatable classrooms with permanent facilities.

The new prep learning centre, blessed by Father Jim Clarke, includes classrooms, breakout spaces and student amenities.

“We’re ensuring that Geelong students have the best facilities to learn in. Kids at Christ the King School have great teachers; now they have the first-rate facilities their families deserve for their education,” Ms Couzens said.

The Victorian government says it has invested more than $10.9 billion in building new schools and more than 1,700 school upgrades over the past seven years, creating about 13,500 jobs in construction and associated industries, and is now ahead of schedule in its commitment to open 100 new schools by 2026, with 62 new schools opening between 2019 and 2024.
