BARWON Health Services will now be able to help even more people get access to healthcare regardless of their postcode, mobility, or means.

Barwon Health Volunteer Services have added a new vehicle to its Volunteer Transport Fleet, allowing them to transfer even more patients.

The new vehicle was funded by the Barwon Health Foundation with special thanks to the Rotary Club of Geelong West, the Rotary Club of Geelong East and the Harold Mitchell Foundation.

Barwon Health Foundation executive director Zoe Waters said every kilometre travelled in the vehicle is a patient getting the care they need.

“We are so grateful to the Rotary Club of Geelong West and Geelong East and the Harold Mitchell Foundation for recognising that transport can be a barrier to treatment – and for helping to break that barrier down.

The new car will allow Barwon Health to take more patients to their appointments around the region.

“Our Foundation gives a heartfelt thanks to the community who are helping make essential care more accessible, ensuring no one is left behind, no matter their circumstance.”

As part of Barwon Health’s Volunteer services, the vehicle will be used to transport patients to their vital medical appointments across Barwon Health.

Last year, volunteer drivers provided close to 400 trips per month, with the Foundation making its own impact by donating nearly $100,000 towards the vital service in the past financial year.
