Old truck tyres to do the trick at Landy Field
RECYCLED truck tyres are helping to drive upgrades forward at one of Geelong’s much loved sporting precincts.
More than 50 tonnes of recycled crumbed rubber sourced from the tyres is being used to renew the running track at Landy Field.
Recent works have included the installation of the base rubber and sealer coat on the track, with the topcoat of rubber to be installed in the coming weeks.
City of Greater Geelong chief executive Ali Wastie said the use of the recycled products aligns with the organisation’s Environment Strategy.
“It promotes a circular economy through sustainable procurement practices, supports new and existing markets for recovered resources, and promotes increased use of recycled materials in road, building and other infrastructure constructions.
“The work being undertaken at Landy Field is innovative in its nature and current users as well as future generations of athletes will benefit from these substantial upgrades.”
The $1.5 million upgrades to Landy Field will also include the relocation of the hammer and discus cage to allow for more competition events to be carried out at the same time.
Track upgrades are expected to be completed by the end of the year.
