OneWorth a success among young girls
INSTILLING self-worth in young girls is in demand after the successful launch of the OneWorth program on the Bellarine Peninsula.
Mindset educator Kirsten Roberts and fellow co-founder and psychologist Sandy Burnett have celebrated the successful completion of their second five-day pilot program.
“They have been amazing, the feedback from the girls is incredible,” Ms Roberts said.
“We asked them what they would say to a friend who was thinking about joining the program and they responded ‘Hurry up and do it already’.”
OneWorth is an evidence-based program aiming to instil girls with a strong sense of self-worth takes a different approach to other mindfulness programs.
“The girls are looking for modern ways to grow and get connected,” Ms Roberts said.
Each lesson is embedded in a movement or a creative project, which Ms Roberts said helps the message stick with the girls.
“They are big concepts that we are discussing,” she said.
“In each lesson we allow for them to go wild with the activities to show them they can go beyond their boundaries.”
Some of the activities have concluded with glitter wars and throwing paint at a wall as an expression of emotions.
The pilot program has already received glowing reviews from parents who have reported that their daughters are happier and have begun talking more openly about their feelings.
From its inception, the OneWorth program attracted the attention of families on the Bellarine Peninsula, with up to 70 registrations received in the first 24 hours.
There is now a waiting list of up to 100 girls as Ms Roberts credits positive word-of-mouth for the strong numbers.
Among those interested are local secondary schools who have approached the women for a tailored program best suited for middle-school girls.
“This year schools have been given extra funding apart of the mental health response to Covid-19, so we are currently putting together programs for schools in the area,” Ms Roberts said.
“It has been insane but insanely good.”
Ms Roberts credits the success of the program based on its ability to tackle big concepts while matching it with engaging activities.
“It is the fun way to discover yourself,” she said.
