Orchids to bloom in Geelong this weekend
A GEELONG plant club will turn a local church hall into a floral wonderland this weekend when hundreds of orchid varieties will be on display, ready to be purchased and perused by residents.
The Geelong Orchid & Indoor Plant Club Inc. will host its annual Spring Show & Sales Weekend over today (Saturday, September 16) and tomorrow (Sunday, September 17) at Christ Church Hall, on the corner of Moorabool and McKillop Streets, one of the club’s biggest events of the year.
Vice-president John Haniver says club shows take place four times a year when there are seasonal changes, but the spring show provides residents with the best plant offerings as orchids come into full bloom.
“Residents who come along to see the orchid show, particularly our spring show, they don’t realise the variety of orchids, and they get blown away by the vast array of orchid types,” Mr Haniver said.
“It’s a really good time of year for orchids and the hall really comes to life over the weekend, it’s certainly an event anyone or any family can spend time at. It’s also a chance to see flowers you don’t get to see anywhere else, unless you travel hours to a specific place.”
Orchids and plants on display can be purchased from $15 to $35, while entry to the show will cost $5, coffee or tea included.
The Spring Show will run from 9am to 4pm on Saturday and 10am to 3pm on Sunday.
