A dangerous thunderstorm is moving across the Otway Ranges, with authorities warning of intense rainfall and the risk of life-threatening flash flooding this afternoon.
A Watch and Act message was issued by the State Emergency Service (SES) just before 1pm for the south west district around the Otways, inland from Lorne, after the Bureau of Meteorology issued a severe thunderstorm warning.
The storm could produce intense rainfall over the next several hours, leading to dangerous flash flooding, fallen trees and branches, landslides, overflowing drains and hazardous road conditions.

Heavy rain has already been recorded in the region this morning, with 45.6mm falling at Mt Cowley in Lorne in the hour to 11.15am.
Residents are being urged to prepare to take shelter, park vehicles undercover and away from trees, and remain indoors if conditions become dangerous.
People are also encouraged to check on family members and neighbours if it is safe to do so.
Drivers are warned to avoid floodwater and low-lying areas, and to be alert for mud, debris and damaged roads or bridges.
For life-threatening emergencies, call Triple Zero (000). For storm and flood assistance, contact the SES on 132 500.
