THE Geelong Outdoor Living and Caravan Expo will return to the Geelong Showgrounds later this month, marking its 12th year.

Running from January 16 to 18, the expo will feature caravans, camping gear and outdoor products, alongside several new additions focused on education and safety.

Expo manager Chris Ball said a new ‘camping kids’ initiative would be introduced this year, centred around a live educational stage running across all three days.

“Camping Kids is a new precinct within the show and it’s aimed at all young kids as a place to go and have some fun,” he said.

“There will be camping games … but it’s also very much about education … so when they’re out there camping with their parents and their friends, they have some skills that they can learn to pick up.”

Adults will also be able to attend educational sessions covering topics such as fishing, fire and electrical safety, and correct towing techniques.

A new ‘accessory avenue’ will showcase smaller camping and outdoor items, while live music, fire pits and marshmallows will also be available throughout the event.

Ball said the event continued to attract strong interest each summer.

“It’s a bit of a summer-time institution to come to the show over your Christmas holiday,” he said. “For us, it’s about now adding layers of education and entertainment to build this into the region’s biggest show by a long way.

“It’s a great day out, we’ve got everything from swags to motorhomes and everything in between.”
