More than 15,000 quality, second-hand books will be on offer, spanning a broad range of genres and topics, from fiction and sport to cooking and politics.

BOOKWORMS and bargain hunters will converge on the Clairvaux School Hall in Belmont this weekend for the return of the annual St Bernard’s Church book fair.

More than 15,000 quality, second-hand books will be on offer, spanning a broad range of genres and topics, from fiction and sport to cooking and politics.

Jigsaw puzzles and DVDs will also be available, while a cake stall will be filled with home-baked treats.

St Bernard’s parish has been collecting books for the fair, with the support of the wider Geelong community, for almost 12 months, and is this year hoping the event will raise $10,000.

All proceeds will be put back into the parish, including the running of its community programs and social groups.

Now in its eighth year, the much-loved book fair has continued to grow in both size and spirit, and regularly welcomes more than 2000 people through the doors.

This year, event organisers are hoping for a record-breaking number of attendees.

Event coordinator and St Bernard’s parish member Peter Wills thanked everyone who has supported the annual event so far and encouraged everyone to come along and find a bargain.

“We’re so thankful for the community’s continued support, both in donating books and turning up on the day,” he said.

“We hope to make this year’s event our biggest and best yet.”

The St Bernard’s Church annual book fair will take place this Sunday, May 4 at the Clairvaux School Hall in Reynolds Road, Belmont between 8am and 2pm.
