THE hottest New Year’s Eve ticket in town is back for a third straight year and if early ticket sales are anything to go by, Geelong is ready to send 2021 off with a bang.

Local Geelong entertainment venue Piano Bar is making its highly anticipated return to the waterfront for its annual takeover of The Pier by bringing in the new year.

With restrictions no longer a factor, as was not the case the previous two years, co-owner of Piano Bar Andy Pobjoy said this year’s event is expected to be a spectacle.

Singer Shandelle Cooke will be part of the entertainment lineup on New Year’s Eve.

“Everyone just has such a positive attitude to this year’s event, just to get out and get amongst it and enjoy what will be a great night out with friends – it will sell out,” Mr Pobjoy said.

“We are really expecting everyone to be in high spirits and it’s going to be an incredibly safe event with a friendly crowd and the whole place will be awash with happy vibes.”

A star-studded line-up is confirmed with performances scheduled throughout the night with Mr Pobjoy on the piano, Shandelle Cooke singing as well as a trio of drag’s finest. Art Simone, HollyPop and Amanduh will also be gracing The Pier.

One of the headlining acts on the night will be Piano Bar favourite and drag queen HollyPop.

Music will be requested by visitors on the night between special performances leading up to the crowning moment on the night when the New Year’s Eve fireworks are set off in Corio Bay.

This year’s event is expected to draw in 800 people with tickets already selling fast.

More than half the ticket sales were purchased prior to Christmas Day and the event usually sees a late rush in sales a couple days before the event.

“This event appeals to a much wider audience compared to our usual events and you get a really good event close to the fireworks,” Mr Pobjoy said.

“The Pier itself is such an iconic part of Geelong’s waterfront so people really do consider it to be a premium destination for New Year’s Eve.

“This event just has an awesome crowd, we’re always taking requests and we get a broad mix of ages, which also makes it fun as well.”

The Pier is set to host Piano Bar’s NYE party for a third consecutive year.

Entry to The Pier begins at 7.30pm on December 31 and the show itself is slated for 8pm on the night.
