A NEW 24-7 specialist golf training facility would be created in an empty Grovedale warehouse under plans submitted to the City of Greater Geelong.

A recently vacated industrial property at 24 Capital Drive would be fitted out with driving simulators, putting greens, equipment sales and repair services, a massage centre and gym for Geelong golfers to hone their game.

On-site coaches would provide training and instruction for up to two players at once, while upstairs the fitnesss facilities would include group classes for programs designed to improve players’ golfing.

Proponents would also sublease to a massage therapist available to members.

The proposed operators stated in planning documents that their “world-class” vision would provide a unique experience for Geelong.

“We wish to provide a brilliant service to our members, with the specific objective of teaching properly and helping them grow their game.

“Our golf coaching philosophy involves fixing the ‘origin’ of a student’s swing and short game faults, whilst helping them to understand their unique swing and short game patterns.

“Our students are then able to train their bodies with our specialized Pilates classes to help improve their overall fitness and golf game.

“We are also able to provide high-end Mizuno golf equipment to further help them achieve their golfing goals. We will be open 24 hours, the first of its kind in the greater Geelong area.”

On behalf of the proponents, planners stated the service would be a win for the region, indicating it “is otherwise not available in Geelong and will provide expert golf education for golfers from Geelong, Regional areas and Melbourne, and provide benefit to the surrounding area and economy”.

The City of Greater Geelong is advertising the plans until this Thursday (March 2).
