Police believe a Torquay firebug has struck again

A TORQUAY firebug who has been actively lighting fires since October 23, is thought to have struck again this morning with police urging anyone with information to come forward.

Since October, ten fires have been confirmed in the areas surrounding Grandview Road with another suspected to be lit on the morning of January 27, 2021.

Prior to this unconfirmed incident, the series of arsons included several scrub and structure fires with CCTV footage depicting a young man believed to be responsible.

Police say the man has been seen using flammable liquid to light fires in Grandview Road and Central Avenue.

Emergency services attended a fire at Deep Creek Park, Torquay this morning with the Arson Squad investigating the matter further.

The fire has caused extensive damage to the playground with the area temporarily fenced off until repairs can be completed, it is not yet confirmed if these cases are linked.

Police have released images of a man whom they believe may be able to assist in their on-going investigation.
