GEELONG’s much loved Poppy Kettle Playground will soon close temporarily to undergo significant repair works.

The works will include the installation of a new slide, forcing the whole play space to close for a period of time from November.

City of Greater Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said city was pleased to deliver improvements to the popular play space.

“Poppy Kettle has long been regarded one of the region’s premier playgrounds for local and visiting children.

“We’re pleased to be able to deliver upgrades and new additions to the space and look forward to families enjoying the facilities this summer and beyond.”

Chair of the active spaces portfolio, Eddy Kontelj said the improvements are necessary to maintain the playground’s strong reputation.

“Poppy Kettle is the perfect spot for families to meet and play, when visiting our beautiful waterfront.

“It attracts a lot of visitors due to its fantastic location, so it is vital that we continue to provide modern equipment and activities for a range of age groups.”

The Poppy Kettle Playground is well known for its interactive Poppy Kettle water fountains and miniature statue.

The unique features are inspired by the children’s book ‘‘Voyage of the Poppy Kettle’ written by local author, Robert Ingpen.

The Geelong waterfront attraction also features multi-coloured tubular slides, dragons emerging from the ground, a timber tower, swing, boat atop the sand pit, bouncers, and a unique pyramid climbing net.

During the summer months, the slide area has also had additional water play features to cool children down in the hot weather.
