POWERCOR are investigating a power outage earlier today (Wednesday, October 12) that is still affecting customers in central Geelong and surrounds.

A Powercor spokesperson said the outage took place just after 10am, which resulted in the loss of electricity to about 7,500 customers.

According to Powercor’s live outage map on its website, the outage is affecting Geelong’s CBD, Newtown, South Geelong, Highton, Belmont, Wandana Heights, Marshall, Grovedale and Waurn Ponds.

The spokesperson said power was quickly restored to about 2,000 of those 7,500 customers, and crews were presently investigating the cause.

Powercor will keep customers advised via its website, which states an estimated restoration time of 3pm, and the spokesperson said some customers would have their power restored before that time.
