Projections to provide powerful images from Anzac Day
RESIDENTS and visitors exploring Geelong’s CBD will from tomorrow be able to gaze upon impactful and historical imagery across the facade of City Hall until May 1.
City of Greater Geelong’s projection project is set to return this Anzac Day as artist Matt Bonner will feature powerful images highlighting war’s devastation on the lives of many Geelong families across the region’s oldest council building.
“The projections are a moving tribute to those who have served in our country’s defence, and those who continue to serve today,” deputy mayor Trent Sullivan said.
“Anzac day is a time to pause and reflect on the sacrifices of our defence force personnel and all those who have given their lives in service of our nation.”
Commemorative banners will line the region in the lead up to April 25, while flags on buildings including City Hall will be lowered.
The light fixture at the intersection of Moorabool and Malop streets will also be turned red on Anzac Day.
Veterans Affairs chair, councillor Eddy Kontelj, said Anzac Day provides an excellent chance for Australians to reflect.
“Dawn services and marches will be held across our region – from Eastern Beach to Lara, Portarlington, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads, Drysdale and Norlane,” Cr Kontelj said.
“Whether it’s attending a local service, buying a badge to support the ANZAC appeal, or making ANZAC biscuits, or emailing your support to our troops – there’s something everyone can do to honour our veterans.”
City Hall’s free projection display will be on show for passers-by from 7pm to 11pm daily from Friday, April 22 to Sunday, May 1.
