Good putting wins couple a wedding
ONE couple’s short game has seen them score a wedding to remember at the Clifton Springs Golf Club.
The “Putty Love” promotion gave couples to chance to win a wedding worth more than $10,000 at the golf club.
Launched earlier this year by radio station K rock, hosts Tom and Loggy invited listeners to register their interest, with six couples chosen to take part in the putting competition.
The putt-off took place at the club on November 19, with Tom and Loggy explaining the rules, including one final twist – the person who entered the competition had to be the one to putt for the wedding.
Golf professional Daniel Materazzo shared some pearls of wisdom on putting and then began the event, with Jordan and Alex emerging as the winners.
Jordan, a carpenter and Clifton Springs local, proposed marriage to Alex the day after she had entered them into the Putty Love competition.
Alex, a police officer who works in the local area, never thought upon entering the competition that she would be the one to putt.
With no previous golf experience, Alex was encouraged by her work colleagues to practice and they even went to the extent of organising a small putting green for her at work.
Three good luck charms helped secure the win – Jordan took his personally inscribed good luck golf ball and his grandad’s Geelong footy cap, and Alex took her lucky left-handed golf putter that was given to her by a special friend.
“You couldn’t have scripted it any better, because Jordan lives on the back of the course, and his father’s a long-time member of the club,” Clifton Springs Golf Club general manager Danny Zernich said.
“There can only be one winner, but the team spirit between all of them was incredible. So we made sure that everyone got a gift pack and walked away with something.”
Mr Zernich said Jordan and Alex had yet to set a date for the wedding but expected it would be held at some point in 2022.
