WITH a wealth of experience and a client-first philosophy, Andrew Locke and Nigel Sullivan, directors at Maven Insurance + Advisory, share industry insights and how Maven helps businesses navigate risk with confidence.
What were the personal motivations to start Maven?
Andrew: We formed the business partly to service the rapidly growing Geelong, Surf Coast and Bellarine regions, and to build and provide a truly independent, local and privately owned insurance broking and advisory alternative.
Nigel: Client advocacy was critical to us – more than simply being an insurance broker. The most appropriate cover is a given, we’re here to support our clients if things go wrong.
How does being independent impact your client service?
Andrew: We’re a group of local business owners tailoring our services to the needs of like-minded local and regional businesses. No two businesses are the same, hence we are engaged and want to provide a unique service to every client.
Nigel: Having direct involvement as a business owner – we’ve got skin in the game. We show a genuine interest in our clients’ businesses.
Can you share a specific example of Maven client engagement?
Andrew: A prominent local builder owned a property occupied by a smash repairer. It was ram-raided, and they got a call from the police at 3:00 a.m. Incidents like this can turn a client’s world upside down but as soon as we received a phone call shortly after, we were able to get things moving with the Insurer. More importantly though, we were able to put our client’s mind at ease and provide a huge sense of comfort that she’ll be right.
What makes your service offering unique?
Andrew: Sounds simple, but there’s not an insurance renewal or program that leaves our office without being reviewed. Ideally in person we – update, make changes and offer recommendations. A lot of our competitors are desktop managing, we are committed to providing face to face advice, delving into our client’s business and developing a relationship.
Nigel: It’s not just a visit come renewal time, we will meet our clients mid-year, update them on market changes and check in on how their business is going.
