A NEW-LOOK Queenscliff is eager to continue its hot start to the BFNL’s A grade netball season.
The Coutas will venture to Mount Moriac Reserve tomorrow (Saturday, April 26) for a 1.45pm clash against the winless Modewarre.
Coach Jane Searle said the team would look to lift its defence and be more patient in attack after getting out of jail against Drysdale last weekend.
It was nonetheless a thrilling victory as they came from two goals down at three-quarter-time to win 45-43.
Newtown & Chilwell recruit and goal shooter Alex Booker netted 17 goals while captain Kaitlin Gladman converted 27.
Searle said Booker brought fast movement to the shooting circle and the team was learning to make the most of it.
“She’s so creative and sets up a lot of different plays for us and we’ve just got to be a bit patient – last week we rushed it a bit too much.
“Because we’ve got that fast movement, we’ve got to be deadly with our feeds in.”
South Barwon signing Caitie Kennedy has been combing well in defence alongside Ebony Rolph at the other end of the court.
Otherwise, the Coutas are experimenting with their midcourt combinations in co-captain Laura Cayzer’s absence due to a calf injury.
“She’ll be back in the next few weeks but we’re not pushing her to come back too early,” Searle said.
The coach added Queenscliff had attracted a flurry of interested players in recent weeks, including A grade recruits.
Jess Rankin and Phoebe Knox made their club debuts in round 1 while youngster Edi Henderson-Craig played top grade for the first time.
Drysdale host Portarlington at 2.45pm and Newcomb welcome Ocean Grove at 6.30pm in this week’s Anzac Day fixtures.
