ANTICIPATION is building for this year’s River Run Geelong as a record field is expected to grace the Barwon River this Sunday, March 3.

Owner of PB Events and lead organiser of the River Run Geelong Justin Higgins said the run had exhausted all 1,500 of its tickets, setting the stage for the largest River Run to date since the inaugural 2013 event.

“It’s really exciting, given that many fun run and park run event ticket sales have actually been down recently due to various factors such as cost of living, but our registrations suggest it will be our biggest field by quite a lot.

“Our volunteers and I are really looking forward to it.”

The River Run will start proceedings at 8am sharp with the first of the event’s two runs – the 10km run – departing and finishing at Barwon Valley Park in Barrabool Road.

The 5km run will start 10 minutes later at 8.10am, but participants may also choose to walk the course if they wish.

“Typically less than a week out from the River Run, we have close to 100 people trying to register for the event, so we might be able to squeeze a few extra people in on the day, but we’ll see how we go,” Mr Higgins said.

“The projected weather forecast suggests it shouldn’t be too hot, 20 or in the low 20s, which will be perfect for running. It’s looking like a perfect day at this stage.”

Participants can also purchase merchandise from local charity River’s Gift on the day to help stamp out SIDS (Sudden Infant Death Syndrome).

Mr Higgins says PB Events is pleased to have River’s Gift on board again for another River Run Geelong.
