ANAKIE Football and Netball Club celebrated the opening of its new court by playing a “Netty versus Footy” netball game at Anakie Reserve earlier this month.
The netballers triumphed 19-15 as the Geelong District league club took a breath to acknowledge all the hard work behind the scenes.

The more than $506,000 project delivered an extra netball court, with lighting, drainage, line marking, a players’ shelter and fencing.
It was supported by $267,000 from the federal government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, more than $197,000 from the state government and more than $41,000 from City of Greater Geelong.

The additional court will allow more participation from community members of all ages while facilitating safer training and play, supporting Anakie to grow its membership base.
The upgrades, including the new lighting, will promote a safer playing and training environment in all conditions.
Anakie will be able to provide more court time for all grades, including the club’s NetSetGo children’s program.
