Run at dawn for a good cause
HUNDREDS of runners will end the year on a fitness high after taking part in the annual Dawnbuster Fun Run.
Participants will complete a 5km course along the Geelong Waterfront on Tuesday, December 31 as the event returns for its 33rd year.
Hosted by the Geelong Cross Country Club and the Give Where you Live Foundation, the event will raise funds for the foundation and their work in supporting the community.
Give Where you Live event manager Jo Wealands said it was always great for the community to come together and support the foundation.
“The Dawnbuster Fun Run is a great way to end the year and kickstart your New Year celebrations while raising funds for the foundation to support people in our community who may be experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, or facing barriers to employment.”
This year participants will take on a new course, setting off from the carousel and making their way towards Limeburners Point before turning around and heading back towards the Carousel on with a slightly different route.
Geelong Cross Country Club event coordinator Paul Austin said the course was one of the highlights of the event.
“There’s no better place to run in Geelong than the waterfront.
“The location is iconic because quite often at that time of the day it’s not windy so the bay is like a mirror and it’s just absolutely beautiful looking across towards the You Yangs.
“We go past the famous swimming enclosure, past the pools, it’s probably seeing Geelong’s Waterfront highlights in one event.
Mr Austin said one of the reasons people should join the fun run is for the wellbeing aspect.
“The early morning, getting out and doing something, feeling really good about yourself, which is usually why people have joined.”
Registration is available online now and opens at 6am on the morning with the fun run starting at 7am.
