WORKS will begin next month to improve pedestrian and vehicle safety on Ghazeepore Road in Waurn Ponds.

The upgrades will include indented parking bays, pedestrian crossing points, intersection upgrades and bus stop enhancements.

This will improve traffic flow, turning movements and pedestrian safety when accessing nearby bus stops.

A roundabout at Ghazeepore Road and Monterey Drive will be funded with a $313,000 grant through the Victorian government’s Safe Local Roads and Streets program.

Hams Road estate developers have also contributed to support the road safety upgrades, while the remaining costs will be funded through the City’s core capital program.

Deputy mayor Ron Nelson said the project was all about making Ghazeepore Road safer for everyone.

“We’re focused on delivering improvements that reduce congestion, enhance safety and support the growing Waurn Ponds community.”

Deakin Ward councillor Andrew Katos said the upgrades are the result of years of community input and concern about traffic flow and pedestrian safety.

“With support from both the state government and local developers, we’re turning community feedback into real improvements.”
