DACHSHUNDS will dash onto the track at the Geelong Harness Racing Club (GHRC) when the popular event returns on January 16.
Now in its fourth year, the Dachshund Dash will again deliver a fun night of racing and a best-dressed competition, with dachshunds of all shapes, sizes and personalities taking part.
GHRC general manager Joe Fiala said the family-friendly event regularly attracts more than 500 people and offers something a little different for the club.
“The excitement of the dachshunds going down the track is really fun,” he said.
“The dachshunds race on the home straight of the harness racing tracks. It’s a great spectacle [with] the people lining the track and along the grass.
“A lot of families come along [and] enjoy the festivities … [and] they do come from afar to participate.”

Many owners go to great lengths to dress their pets for the Fashions on the Field competition, adding to the colour and atmosphere of the night.
Alongside the dash, regular harness racing will take place, with face painting for kids, picnic areas and food vans also available.
Dachshund Dash entries close on Sunday, January 11.
