THE spring school holidays are right around the corner and there is plenty happening in central Geelong.

The City of Greater Geelong is partnering with local businesses in Geelong’s CBD to make the upcoming school holidays a fortnight to remember, delivering activities, events and exhibitions which began Saturday (September 16) and will run until Sunday, October 1.

Cr Melissa Cadwell said there will be something for everyone as part of the Central Geelong Fun Guide these coming holidays.

“Council and Central Geelong businesses have teamed up to inspire and engage kids over the school holidays, and support parents and caregivers,” Cr Cadwell said.

“Our family-friendly program offers the opportunity to get crafty, learn about nature, delve into the arts or explore your own story.”

“Places are limited so make sure to book early where required.”

Geelong mayor Trent Sullivan said there are going to be more than 50 activities in the Spring edition of the Central Geelong Fun Guide, which will keep local children active, engaged and having fun in the heart of the city.

“Enjoy disco beats and giant bubbles in Johnstone Park, painting classes and storytelling sessions or learn to knit, record your own podcast and help design a food zine.

“Get the diary out and explore our jam-packed program of free or low-cost activities that will entertain, and delight children aged 3-18.

“Council is proud to be delivering Build a Bee Hotel, Bebop Pop Up Circus with ringmaster Nikolas Ridiculous and Picnic in the Park – Disco Beats & Bubbles events and partnering with Eden Ariston Artist, alongside craft activities at the National Wool Museum and free events at The Carousel.”

Among the activities available will be Barbie Runway and BLING your Barbie activities at Vintage Remixed in Geelong’s Centrepoint Arcade where children can get their Barbies to strut their stuff on a doll-sized fashion runway and Bling up your Barbie to be part of a photoshoot.

Children can record their thoughts, research, or stories to kickstart their podcast career at the ‘Your Story in a Podcast’ activity at the Geelong Library & Heritage Centre, or create a unique block art mirror from upcycled reclaimed wood in the ‘Mirror Magic’ activity at Wishart Creative.
