GEELONG MUMS will welcome a Geelong Cats legend as their special guest for their Rise and Shine Business Breakfast next month.

The October 27 event in the Presidents Room at GMHBA Stadium will be headlined by four-time premiership captain and first-time father, Joel Selwood.

Selwood will give insights on leadership, resilience, what inspires him and the importance of supporting the local community.

The six-time AFL All-Australian and his wife Brit Selwood recently became parents for the first time in February with the birth of their son Joey.

With the aim of increasing support Geelong Mums and their work, the event hopes to bring the local corporate sector together and encourage them to help give vulnerable babies and children the best start at life.

Geelong Mums head of operations and impact Julia Roache said the organisation couldn’t wait for the event.

“We’re very excited to be holding this important fundraising event and hearing from Joel Selwood, especially as we celebrate our 10th birthday.

“As a former AFL player, a well-respected member of the Geelong community and recently an author of his own book; All In, Joel will bring a fascinating perspective to this event.

“The ongoing support of the corporate community in Geelong is vital to our continued success in providing essential items to vulnerable babies and children across Victoria.”

Ms Roache said there has never been a more important time to support Geelong Mums.

“As the cost-of-living crisis deepens, we are braced for further increases in demand, and we are determined to be able to respond.

“To do so, we need urgent help to meet this increase in demand for our service.”

From supporting 300 babies and children in 2013, Geelong Mums has grown to support over 8,500 vulnerable babies and children per year.

In the last year, Geelong Mums provided 23,853 essential items, with an estimated second-hand value of $2.7 million.
