Share your views on Rosewall Park

ROSEWALL is a unique part of Geelong. Although the 2024 electoral review placed Rosewall in the Lara centred ward of You Yangs, its true community connection continues to be within the northern suburbs and the Corio Ward I represent.

Rosewall is going through renewal, with the previous closed school site and some surplus council land set for development into new residential lots. This redevelopment has created an opportunity to reinvent Rosewall Park to maximise community benefit.

But, to ensure we deliver the park our community wants, we’re currently engaging in a comprehensive community consultation to seek your views.

Some ideas previously raised with me include new parking and better access for the Rosewall Community Centre; a community food garden; basketball backboards; more seating; all age playground equipment and more barbeques and shelters to turn the park into a real gathering space for the community.

Of course, the essential park elements like paths, furniture, grassy areas and garden beds will be included by default.

But the ideas we’re seeking are to really elevate the space beyond your standard park.

A few proposals that have been raised are nature play, a maze, a ninja course to test your fitness, a pump track, or water features.

The process of seeking community feedback is so much more than just an online survey.

One of the features I’ve been playing around with is the “Build Your Park” tool on our website, where you have 100 points to allocate to all the different possibilities.

Whether you want a junior skate section or a basketball court, the “Build Your Park” tool lets you combine all the options together to get the balance just right.

I’m personally open to many different ideas – the main thing I want to see is a more accessible Rosewall Park that is a truly engaging space, reflecting the wishes of the community.

But to get there, everyone needs to have their say.

To make sure we capture as many views as possible, the engagement for Rosewall Park has been extended to 5pm on Sunday 29 June 2025.

Once the engagement closes, City officers will review all the feedback before sharing a draft concept plan for the park later this year, where you’ll be able to share your final thoughts.

There’s a whole range of opportunities for you to shape the city’s direction across a range of issues.

Visiting Your Say website is a great starting point to see which engagements are open and where you can contribute.

A lot of engagements only take a few minutes, but there are often ways to get more involved, such as in-person drop-in sessions or by joining a community reference group.

You can even register for the community engagement e-newsletter.

By subscribing and letting us know your topics of interest, you’ll receive an email when a new engagement is open that relates to your interests.

There’s even a chance to win a $100 gift card each month for all subscribers, but you’ve got to be in it to win it.

There have been many examples of things during my time as a councillor where the community feedback through engagements has helped to shape the final project.

So, head on over to the website, have your say, and don’t forget to register while you’re there.
