Sharing stories, simultaneously
LAST month, I had the great pleasure of attending the Geelong West Library for the annual National Simultaneous Storytime event.
Seeing the faces of the young kids in the room light up each year listening to the story, which I once again had the honour of reading, is always a wonderful thrill.
Days such as this remind me of why Geelong is so special.
We have so many things on for people of all ages and getting out and about is what makes life as a Councillor so enjoyable.
Some events on the radar for this month and beyond have also got me excited, including the Tastes of Greater Geelong and ReSound festivals.
That first name might sound familiar to many of you, as what was previously the Tastes of Central Geelong has now changed names.
Part of the reason for this is the festival now includes the entire Greater Geelong region, which means we get to boast even more about the food, drink and hospitality scene not only in Central Geelong, but also the surrounding suburbs and of course our magnificent Bellarine.
For those unfamiliar with the event, Tastes of Greater Geelong, which will celebrate its 13th year in 2024, aims to highlight everything our region has to offer in the food, drink and hospitality space.
So whether you are keen on trying locally made food, farm-fresh produce, attending wine and dine events or going out on gourmet taste trails, Tastes of Greater Geelong will have you covered.
The program spans from Friday, June 21 to Sunday ,July 14 and is of course open to locals and visitors alike.
For further information on Tastes of Greater Geelong, head to geelong.link/tastes2024 where a full program will be announced in early June.
I hope to see everyone at an event supporting our local hospitality scene.
June will also see the ReSound festival hit Geelong and the Bellarine.
The free ReSound events celebrate music and talent at a number of venues and aim to support homegrown musicians as well as small businesses in the region.
As part of our Live & Local program, the ReSound festival launches on Saturday. June 1 at Ocean Grove, with live music between 2-6pm at Blackman’s Brewery, Bookgrove, Driftwood Café, KALA and The Piping Hot Chicken Shop.
Then on Saturday. June 11 between 2-6pm music lovers can head to central Geelong for more entertainment.
There will be 20 performances at venues including Medusa, Beav’s Bar, Lou’s Pizza and Wine, Murran First Nations Hub, Pistol Pete’s Food n Blues, Popcultcha Records & Books and The Hot Chicken Project.
Live music has played a significant role in the development of our region for many years and is a huge part of Greater Geelong’s culture and history.
I encourage everyone to get out and see some of the eclectic blend of musicians wanting to showcase their talents here this June.
